The Coronas are an Irish band that doesn't make a big thing of being from Ireland. There's no mention of traditional Irish music, Guinness or the Troubles. Not that there's anything wrong with that, what we mean to say is that this is music that you can sit back and listen to like any other great album.
Music Review//The Coronas - Closer To You:
With ten perfectly formed tracks of indie rock on the album this is a nice listen, evoking that certain post listening giddiness that says you've just heard something great. The opening riffs of What You Think You Know propel the listener into the Bluesy world of the powerhouse chorus and some impressive guitar playing. As an opener, this is a perfect one and the joy continues on Mark My Words, which is slightly down tempo from the opener and carries a message important to many "if you don't act now you'll never be the same".
Elsewhere Blind Will Lead The Blind carries a muted yet propulsive beat and carries the melodic power that the band imbue in all the songs on this album. On Addicted To Progress though they create the albums highlight as the keys add an extra dance like element to the already energetic mix. That and an addictive guitar interlude make this a must listen.
In summation then Closer To You is an album that deserves your ear like a good melody deserves a home on record. With anthemic songs such as Dreaming Again Part 2 that recall the joy of hearing your first ever seriously favorite record it's a sure recommendation that we shall give to Closer To You. Pick it up and you won't regret it!
