it seems like a long time since the first part of this series came out with many of the songs included thus far growing into firm favorites among the fan base. Bring on then the sixth (of eight) in the Biophila Remix Series from Björk.
Music Review// Björk - Biophilia Remix Series 6
Breaking with the established duo tracked pattern of the previous releases Matthew Herbert provides three remixes for this well packaged release. The opening Mutual Core (Teutonic Plates Remix) is similar to it's name as it shakes up and down sonically with icy synth and drums interchanging between each other as the weather in temperate climates does.
The middle track Sacrifice (Pins and Needles Remix) is a highlight as the music is literally hidden, hiding like a pins and needles afflicted muscle under the vocals as mix effects turn the originals prosaic instrumentation into a lullaby like paean to love. The quality of the vocals shines through when the mix is stripped down to just the voice and is a breathtaking moment indeed. The sensitive treatment of the source material continues on closer Virus (Fever Mix) taking music box like rhythms and shiny sound waves of synthesizer to create a compelling version of the original horn heavy mix that is arguably even better in some aspects.
Once again then an excellent collection with the extra track making a more rounded listen. Matthew Herbert has worked with Björk on many occasions and produced some excellent work and on the basis of this beautifully produced remix collection continues to do so.
